CBSE Class 12 Mathematics 2026 Main Paper 65/1/1 · Question 37 (Probability)
In an online jackpot, there is one first prize of ₹3,00,000, two second prizes of ₹2,00,000 each and three third prizes of ₹50,000 each. A total of 1,00,000 jackpot tickets each costing ₹100 were sold there by raising a fund of ₹1,00,00,000. Rohan bought one ticket.
Part (1) 1 Marks
What are the possible amounts the person can win?
Answer: ₹3,00,000, ₹2,00,000, ₹50,000
- The prizes are 300000, 200000, 50000.
- ₹3,00,000, ₹2,00,000, ₹50,000
Part (2) 2 Marks
What is the probability that the person wins at least ₹2,00,000?
Answer: 3/100000
- Winning at least 200000 includes first and second prizes. Total such tickets = 1+2=3.
- Probability = 3/100000.
- 3/100000
Part (3) 2 Marks
What is the probability that the person does not win any amount?
Answer: 49997/50000
- Total winning tickets = 1+2+3 = 6.
- Probability of not winning = 1 − 6/100000 = 99994/100000 = 49997/50000.
- 49997/50000
Part (4) 1 Marks
In another jackpot, Rohan also bought a ticket having a prize money of ₹5,00,000. The chances of winning the jackpot are 1 in 1,00,000. Find the probability that on exactly one of the tickets he wins the jackpot.
Answer: 174997/2500000000
- Assume the drawings are independent and that winning the first jackpot includes any of its six prizes. Then P(A)=6/100000 and P(B)=1/100000.
- Exactly one win has probability P(A)(1−P(B))+(1−P(A))P(B) = (6·99999+99994)/100000² = 174997/2500000000.
